How Clients Can Manage Their Notification Preferences

1 min read

Clients can choose which types of portal notifications they receive. This lets them stay informed about what matters most without being overwhelmed by emails they don’t need.

Where Clients Manage Preferences #

Notification preferences are found inside the portal itself:

  1. Log in and open any portal
  2. Click the account menu in the top-right corner of the portal navigation
  3. Find the Notifications section
  4. Toggle the notification types on or off
  5. Changes are saved automatically

Available Notification Types #

Clients can independently enable or disable each of the following (only shown if the feature is active on your site):

  • New messages — Triggered by a new message posted in the Discussion tab
  • File uploads — Triggered by a file added to the Files tab
  • Board activity — Triggered by a new topic or reply on the Message Board
  • Task assignments — Triggered by being assigned to a task

If a feature is disabled site-wide (e.g., the Message Board is turned off), that notification type won’t appear in preferences.

Notifications That Can’t Be Turned Off #

Some notifications are part of critical workflows and cannot be disabled by clients:

  • File approval requests (if the client is designated as an approver)
  • Deliverable approval confirmations and revision receipts are handled on the team side and don’t apply to client preferences

Muted Indicator for Admins #

Admins can see which portal members have disabled notifications. A muted bell icon appears next to that user’s name on the People tab, with a tooltip listing which notification types are turned off.

This is only visible to administrators — clients cannot see each other’s notification settings.
