The portal landing tab is the first tab clients see when they open a portal. By default this is the Overview tab, but you can change it to any tab that makes more sense for how you work with clients.
Setting the Global Landing Tab #
The landing tab setting applies to all portals site-wide.
- Go to Settings → ClientPress → Features.
- Find the Portal Landing Tab option.
- Select the tab you want clients to land on.
- Save settings.
Available Landing Tab Options #
- Overview (default) — The Gutenberg-editable portal homepage
- Discussion — Private messaging. Requires Discussion to be enabled.
- Tasks — Task manager. Requires Task Manager to be enabled.
- Files — File library. Requires Files to be enabled.
- Message Board — Topic-based discussion. Requires Message Board to be enabled.
- Tools & Links — Curated link board. Requires Tools & Links to be enabled.
- Docs — Portal-specific client documents.

What Happens if the Selected Tab Is Disabled #
If the tab you’ve selected as the landing tab is later disabled under Features, the portal will fall back to the Overview tab automatically. Clients will not see an error.
Choosing the Right Landing Tab #
The best landing tab depends on how you primarily use your portals:
- Overview — Good for portals where you write a custom welcome or project brief that clients should read first
- Discussion — Good for communication-first workflows where clients check in frequently
- Tasks — Good for project-management-heavy engagements where progress tracking is the priority
- Files or Deliverables — Good for creative or production work where clients are regularly reviewing and approving output
